Indian Meadows - Glenville

Our family had a planned get-together to celebrate my deceased Dad's Birthday so we meet annually in Glenvillle, NY (where I grew up). We all gathered at the  Indian Meadows Park and since Cris and I arrived early, I had time for a short hike to explore the area.

My Hike

It's open double track through fields and forest until you get to the stream and then it's surprisingly rooty tight single track. Next time up here I will bring the mountain bike to explore! :-)

Quickie at JB Williams Park

It was a decent day to mountain bike so headed up to the JB Williams Park and explored some of the northern trails - they were a bit challenging! I had hiked here August 2021--mostly the main fire roads--so it was good to find out there's good singletrack here!

This very picturesque trail winds along a stream but I should have taken it in the opposite direction (westward instead of eastward) as it was all uphill and tricky (very narrow with lots of roots and rocks)
Lower Pond
not too bad for riding thru lots of overgrowth!

Flooding (July 2023)

I was up in Vernon today at Lynch's Toyota and decided to check out the flooding in the river behind the dealership.

Hockanum River - Vernon

I hiked here on the Oakland Trail back in 2022. After the storms we just had (torrential rain in the Hudson Valley and Vermont) this area looked a lot wetter!

After this skunk appeared, I quickly turned around!

Glastonbury Boat House

I took a look at the Connecticut River at the boat house and it has submerged the lower walkways!

At the South Glastonbury Ferry

Next I stopped at the ferry and it was a watery mess as well!

Cotton Hollow

Lastly, I ventured into the Cotton Hollow Preserve and walked to the vestiges of the old dam behind the Grange pool.
Mucho agua!

Yikes - Like a Sauna at Case Mtn

I was eagerly up and at Case Mountain at 8 am today and although the heat wasn't too bad, the humidity was awful! :-(

Its always gorgeous on the green trails south of the reservoir...
After a long and precarious ride on the old Coop Road trail (one section was a long wild downhill ride on loose stone!)...
... at the old bridge, I headed back south on JoyRide 2019. Its a wonderful trail but a constant climb of over 285 ft in brutal humidity - it was tough for an old geezer like me. I did have to stop a few times for a breather...

The final section was the reward - mostly downhill and once on the access road - it was more open and as I speed back - the breeze was oh so refreshing!
