River Highlands

I finally got off my rump and ventured over to "the west side of the river" to ride River Highlands. It was great! Most of the trails were fairly easy but full of sinewy curves and nice flow.

 Example of non-stop "sinewy curves"

Once by the river - you ride high above it on a ledge - very cool!
I took the yellow trail along the ravine and stream that leads to the riverside. What marvelous benched trails. Its really stunning ride thru here...
I took a short break here and ate a pear for replenishment...
I then ascended (lugging my bike by foot) this REALLY STEEP trail - this is the view back down  - CRAZY!
Finally, I rode around a bit on the trails to the north before heading back to the parking lot...

It's really a great place and I'll be back for sure!

Quarry Treks - dense foliage...

Kevin Malone stopped by for a visit so I took him to:

1 - The Abandoned Feldspar Quarries

just off Raymond Road in South Glastonbury

Found the perfect spot for playing the flute :-)
Lichen on the Moss
(reminded my of my model railroading days -
lichen like this was used for trees!)

and then onto...

2 - QuarryView in Portland, CT

it was fabulous!

New Discovery

Although there is a plethora of old ATV trails scattered all over this area, what I discovered today was definitely a remnant of an old road. Where it paralleled the stream, it was quite scenic. There's quite a bit of deadfall across this old road in places but eventually with a bit of work, it would make a nice XC biking trail.

Also,.. taken a day earlier on the water line trail - late afternoon - very purty!
