JB Williams - It was hot

Mid Sunday afternoon I rode JB Williams park. It was still pretty hot! Its a small park but there are some really nice trails there and a couple of really tough ones. Truth be told - this old man had to walk the bike in a few sections but as always, it was fun just being in the woods...

There were the tough spots - mucho steep hills and/or tight and rocky/rooty.

Saguaro - Old Bench Trail loop finished

Today Al Tinti and I finished clearing up the lovely trail along the Salmon River ravine. It turned out to be a beautiful day and the full loop will be fun to ride (see rough trail map at bottom).

The GPXs have been submitted to Trailforks so hopefully soon there'll be a nice map to entice and guide riders. Rough sketch map below includes the water line (which is wet and nasty to ride all year long!)

Potential - EoK - NoH

East of Keeney - North of Howe (EoK - NoH)

I took a walk through an unexplored forest area - checking out features that might be nice for a future mountain bike trail. Keeping a good distance from the myriad of dirt bike trails is an important criteria.

The dry stream bed has great potential!

EoK Water Line Alternative

There is finally an alternative from riding the nasty "always wet" Water Line Trail when  entering from the Keeney Street side :-)

There are some beautiful spots along the trail...
...and of course there's the rusted car ruins!
Here's where it starts on the Keeney Street side (right off the Water Line trail)

Double Header Plus!

I did a double header today (well almost a triple header if you count my hike at Smith School).

Smith School Trails

In the morning I hiked Parcel 3 at the Smith School Trails and widened a couple of tight turns with the rake and GPSd the Maze area, The GPS--as expected--didn't turn out so great.  Due to the tightness of the loops, there were quite a few crossover errors. I fudged it the best I could for the graphic map.

R3 - start of the mini-Sidewinder

Dividend Pond

I drove over to Dividend Pond for a quickie which of course included both the mini Sidewinder ravines as well as the Pit Viper and Back to the Future trails.

River Highlands

Next,  over at River Highlands for a change I rode Upper PowerGlide in the opposite direction and ventured the amazing rim trails along the ravines. They were freakin' awesome!

Across the Putnam Bridge

Today I rode across the newly opened Putnam Bridge trail on my road bike around 5:30 PM. It was a simple and short ride but nice to get out on my road bike for a change...

Leaving Glastonbury
On the Wethersfield side
Heading Back
Passing Keeney's Cove

A little shaky because I just rested the camera on the handlebars - oh well!

EoK Snow Hike

I was finally feeling better after my spell with COVID so I went on an afternoon hike East of Keeney.

I went in at Heritage Drive and hiked the entire parcel south of Howe. Lots of folks have been using the trails as well as a dirt biker.

A sunny hike (EoK)

Took a sunny hike on the trails south of Howe Street today - things are looking good!

No More Rain - Finally!

Took a short late afternoon hike - South of Howe - East of Keeney.  The stream was high due to the incredible amount of rain we've had recently but the trees are starting to change color - mmm... mmm...
