I have pulled this page from the blog as it apparently caused considerable consternation among landowners in the area. I assume no trespassing signs will be prominently posted and private property rights will be respected.
This property is not abandoned. The author of this blog needs to know that several "No trespassing" signs had been torn down and one even burnt in the fire by a group of young “visitors” who left trash behind and destroyed the signs. There is some information about this at the local sheriff’s office. The community is working on a surveillance project…
I was with Rich on this trek, and we had absolutely no idea any of this was private property! We were just following a clearly defined trail from Mohawk Landing along the top of the river bank, and never encountered any "No Trespassing" signs. Didn't see any signs of use, and assumed it was county land from years gone by. We never would knowingly walk across someone's property without asking permission. And are very sorry for that. I agree, signs should be posted right at the division of Mohawk Landing property & the trail that we were following. Maybe the town can do that in association with the Landing and property owners!
