It's always great in Trumbull...

Although the weatherman predicted TERRIBLE rainstorms - most of the day was quite pleasant.

Rail Trail

Ironically, when I arrived in Trumbull it started raining when I took the bike off the car rack so I rode the rail trail for a bit.  I had to stash my glasses in my mini hip pack until it cleared.
As it cleared on the Rail Trail

Old Mine Park

I turned around once it cleared and decided to ride a bit of Old Mine. I rode up to the first overlook and took a few photos--its a really special spot!
And then a fast exit across the field and footbridge where I grokked the geese!
Finally I headed back down to the Valley. This kiosk needs info!

Pequonnock Valley

I took it fairly easy again today and took the White Trail down to the canyon.
I headed back out on the Blue and blood and mud proved it was a good ride!

To the Cove and Back

Tonight after dinner I rode down to the Long Island Sound and visited Cove Island Park (Stamford CT). With daylight lasting until 8:30 - 9 PM it's a lost opportunity if I don't ride!

The weather was especially nice and it's truthfully an easy ride with a minimum of hills (yeah maybe I was a bit lazy as well :-) )

I like to pop in down by the river in the Springdale in the industrial area where I often see a deer. Sure enough...
He was a curious one!

Cove Island Park

Once the site of a large industrial mill complex, remnants of yesteryear are still present.
We used to come here a lot when we first moved to Stamford. Before I "discovered" the woods and mountain biking, the beach was often our weekend destination.
What's the big deal about this spot? This is where our son first rode his bike  - it was a magical moment for sure...
That's a dam across the pond - Greg (our son) with his wild friends, in typical teenage rambunctiousness rode over it with our canoe - YIKES!
My son and I used to sit here at this rocky spot and chill (great memories...)
It's a beautiful relaxing place...
On the rode back home, I stopped to film a few proud geese "strutting their stuff"

Further Info

Stamford Manufacturing Co.
Started in 1792 as a small tidewater gristmill on the eastern edge of Cove Island, it grew to become Stamford's largest industry and the world's largest dye extracting concern.

At its peak in 1890 it employed about 500 workers, with state-of-the-art facilities on 70 acres at the Cove, thousands of feet of mechanized wharves hosting big deep-sea schooners, a shipping company with four schooners, and a number of houses on Weed Street.

Wilderness Weekend

Thus weekend, the weather was absolutely gorgeous - just perfect for mountain biking so I made the most of it!

Huntington

On Saturday I rode Huntington and conditions were perfect. Stratocaster, South Park, South Pond and the Burn Loops (as well as some of the main double track which I rarely ride...)
Enlarged to show the lighthouse

Minaus

After  coming home for a mid afternoon BBQ in the back yard, I went over to ride Minaus around 4:30. It was ridiculously crowded (as usual) but I got in my fix in of Meander and Swingset and the other usual trails.

Trumbull

Sunday afternoon was spent blazing a bit more of the Red trail with Kevin and a break upstream aside the Copper Creek. We discovered a little island!

Mianus - crowded yet plesaant

After my chain broke last week in the middle of the park it was nice to finally get back to the park for a mid-afternoon ride. It was ridiculously crowded (I parked up at Fort Stamford) but there was a breeze and it was mucho sunny.

hit a couple of loose small logs descending on a Swingset and I suddenly wobbled so much I hit a tree. OUCH! ... but I'll recover soon enough...

Neighborhood Jaunt

I went out for short neighborhood jaunt on my road bike. Saw a few animals and was snowed on by fluffy seeds!
Huh? Snow?
