Bolton Notch

Kevin was up in the area so we meet up at Bolton Notch to do a hike (and a Forest and Flute Chat!). The weather was great - nice and sunny and not too hot!

The Rail Trail

Our first destination was the "tunnel" on the rail trail and the scenic rock cuts - they never disappoint!

The Cave

Next we headed to Squaw's Cave - thanks to internet research we were able to find it. It would have been impossible to locate without directions!
This cave has quite a tragic lover's legend. Local folklore claims that a Young Dutchman named Peter Hager feel in love and married a Native American princess called "Wunnee". At that time, interracial marriages were forbidden so the pair fled into the wilderness and were pursued by a group of Englishmen.  A bounty was placed on Hager. The pair escaped capture for decades living in the wilderness before eventually making theiscave their home. One day Hager's past caught up to him and he was shot by bounty hunters and returned to the cave where Wunnee found him dying.

The Pond

Hiking along the pond was very scenic.

The Loop

Lastly we took the Yellow Loop. There was some hefty climbing and although the trail along the upper ridge would be awesome to bike - riding  up there is nearly impossible...

Great park - there's lots more to explore!
